Read a day to day account of my 23 day solo thru hike(southbound) of the John Muir Trail complete with planning details, training, and gear list. I consider myself an average backpacker with the desire to experience the challenge of a long distance trail. Prior to this trip the longest time I had spent in the wilderness was four days. The John Muir Trail was simply an awesome experience!
Web gallery of my best images. All pictures were taken with a Canon 5D, 17 - 40 mm lens (4lbs of camera). Over the course of the 23 day hike (southbound) I photographed 1,600 images. My itinerary was built around photography and I tried to stage myself for morning and evening light as best I could. Here are 62 of those pictures. Image file names begin with a date prefix (mmdd).
Web gallery of images from the trail (southbound). If you are interested in seeing what the John Muir Trail really looks like then you'll want to browse through these pictures. You'll find photos of trail signs, water crossings, bridges, camp, resupply points, random objects, and a few snaps of me. Most of these pictures were taken in the middle of the day and lighting (in terms of photography) is pretty average. Primarily these photos are documentary in nature, but should provide a good feel for the JMT. You will find over 300 pictures in this gallery. Image file names begin with a date prefix (mmdd).
